Agridulce is a poignant journey through the lives of four Dominican children who strive to master their musical heritage.

 

In the town of Cabarete, where bachata is a way of life, the young musicians come of age in a community where modernity is remaking tradition. Generations clash, migrants struggle to assimilate and children to understand sexuality in a context of poverty and exploitation.  At the heart of their story is La Academia de Bachata, a music school that reclaims bachata from its marginalized past. Agridulce is a testament to the power of the arts to make sense of a world riddled with paradox.
